Paul Daisuke Narui

Paul Daisuke Narui SVD (born November 24, 1973 in Iwakura ) is a Japanese religious and appointed Roman Catholic Bishop of Niigata .

Life

Paul Daisuke Narui entered the boys' seminary of the Steyler Missionaries in 1986 and made his perpetual profession on March 9, 2000 in this religious community . From 1997 to 2001 he studied at the Nanzan University and acquired the licentiate ion moral theology . He received the sacrament of ordination on March 10, 2001 at Nanzan Church, Nagoya .

He served as a pastoral worker in Japan until 2004 and then spent two years in the United States for further training . From 2006 to 2008 he was prefect for the postulants in his religious order and then until 2011 for the friars with temporary profession. In addition to various functions that he assumed in his religious province , he was an employee of Caritas Japan from 2006 to 2015 . In this role he was responsible for the distribution of relief supplies in the affected areas after the Tōhoku earthquake in 2011 . From 2015 until his appointment as bishop he was Secretary for Justice and Peace at the General Curia of the Divine Word Missionaries in Rome.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Niigata on May 31, 2020.
