In the first meeting of the city council on January 10, 2013, the previous mayor of Lauter, Thomas Kunzmann (Free Voters) was appointed as the official administrator of the newly founded city. In the election of the mayor on April 14, 2013, Kunzmann prevailed against his three competitors with 81.17% of the vote.
