Chess Olympiad 1933
The 5th Chess Olympiad took place from June 12 to 23, 1933 in Folkestone ( England ). The 1933 World Chess Championship for women was held in the same context . The 5th Chess Olympiad, originally planned for 1932 in Spain, was canceled at short notice due to financial problems.
Overview
15 teams took part to determine the Olympic champion in a round-robin tournament . Germany was not represented this time, but Scotland made its Olympic debut. 71 players took part in the competition. The team tournament was played with four teams, with a substitute player was allowed. The Leas Cliff Hall (picture) was the venue. The time to consider was two and a half hours for 40 trains, then one hour for 16 trains each time. The placements were decided based on the board points (BP) and team points (MP).

The number of team points is one point too high. Apparently, a point was assigned to the non-play team on every match day in order to keep the table meaningful.
