Essouvert is a French commune with 1,163 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Poitou-Charentes ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Jean-d'Angély and the canton of Saint-Jean-d'Angély (until 2015: canton of Saint-Savinien ). The inhabitants are called Essouvertois .

On January 1, 2016, the previously independent municipalities of Saint-Denis-du-Pin and La Benâte were merged to form today's Commune nouvelle Essouvert.

Essouvert is about 50 kilometers east-southeast of La Rochelle . Essouvert is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Courant in the north and north-west, Lozay in the north, Loulay in the north and north-east, Antezant-la-Chapelle in the east, Courcelles in the south-east, Saint-Jean-d'Angély in the south, La Vergne in the south and south-west as well as Landes in the west.
