Courant is a French municipality with 414 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Poitou-Charentes ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Jean-d'Angély and is part of the canton of Saint-Jean-d'Angély (until 2015: canton of Loulay ). The inhabitants are called Courantais .

Courant is about 46 kilometers east-southeast of La Rochelle in the Saintonge . Courant is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Bernay-Saint-Martin in the north and north-west, Migré in the north-east, Lozay in the east, Essouvert in the south and south-east, Landes in the south, Nachamps in the west and south-west and Puyrolland in the west.
