Dora Vallier

Dora Vallier , actually Dora Uvalieva or Dora Ouvaliev , (born July 23, 1921 in Sofia ; died September 12, 1997 in Paris) was a Bulgarian - French art historian .

Life

Dora Vallier was born in Sofia in 1921. Her maiden name is Dora Uvalieva or Dora Ouvaliev , depending on the source . In France she later published under the pseudonym Dora Vallier. She left Bulgaria in 1950 and studied art history. In 1953 she graduated from the University of Padua and did her doctorate on Byzantine art . Her son Pierre Todorov , born in 1958, emerged from her marriage to the journalist Luben Todorov .

Vallier settled in Paris in the early 1950s. Here she met Christian Zervos , for whose art and literary magazine Cahiers d'Art she worked from 1953. In the following years she wrote about Georges Braque , Pablo Picasso , Jacques Villon , Constantin Brâncuși , Joan Miró , Fernand Léger and other artists of the 20th century, many of whom she got to know personally. She also published articles in the American magazine Art news and other publications. Her books, which are published in several languages, include catalog raisonnés on Georges Braque and Henri Rousseau . Dora Vallier died in Paris in 1997. In 2013 the Musée Zervos in Vézelay dedicated an exhibition to her.
