Varaize is a French municipality with 560 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Poitou-Charentes ); it belongs to the arrondissement Saint-Jean-d'Angély and is part of the canton Matha (until 2015: canton Saint-Jean-d'Angély ). The inhabitants are called Varaiziens .
geography
Varaize is located about 65 kilometers east-southeast of La Rochelle in the Saintonge . Varaize is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Poursay-Garnaud in the north and north-west, Les Églises-d'Argenteuil in the north, Saint-Pierre-de-Juillers in the east and north-east, La Brousse in the east, Aumagne in the south, Sainte-Même in the south and Southwest, Fontenet to the west and southwest, and Saint-Julien-de-l'Escap to the west.
