Taillebourg [ tajbuːr ] is a French municipality with 731 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Jean-d'Angély and the canton of Saint-Jean-d'Angély .

history

The battle of Taillebourg took place near the village in 1242 between the soldiers of the King of France and the King of England , which ended in a victory for the French army.

The Taillebourg castle was during the 18th century the most important castle of Saintonge . The three-winged building in the shape of an Us burned down during a fire in 1822 and is now only a ruin .
