La Benâte is a formerly independent municipality in the arrondissement of Saint-Jean-d'Angély , Charente-Maritime department in France and belonged to the canton of Saint-Jean-d'Angély . The inhabitants are called Benâtais . The place was united on January 1, 2016 with the two communes of Saint-Denis-du-Pin, which were also independent until then, to form the new commune ( Commune nouvelle ) Essouvert .
