Normunds Miezis (born May 11, 1971 in Olaine ) is a Latvian chess master .

Miezis was the Latvian individual champion in 1991 and 2006 .
Miezis won or occupied top places in several tournaments: 1. – 2. 2nd place at the Grand Masters tournament in Schöneck , shared with Peter Enders (1996), 2nd – 9th Place at the Keres Memorial in Tallinn (1998), 2-4. 1st place at the Troll Masters in Gausdal (1999), 1st place at the Masters in Gonfreville (1999), 1st place at the tournament in Dianalund (2000), 1st – 2nd place Place at the 4th Golden Cleopatra Open in Cairo (2000), 3rd place at the 5th United Insurance tournament in Dhaka , Bangladesh (2001), 2nd place at the Norwegian Open Championship in Oslo (2001), 2nd place at the Classics GM -Turnier in Gausdal (2001), 3rd-9th 1st place at the Keres Memorial in Tallinn (2001), 1st place at the Classics IM-B tournament in Gausdal (2002), 1st place at the Classics IM tournament in Gausdal (2003), 1st place at the tournament in Bogny-sur-Meuse ( 2003), 1-2. Place at the Open in Seefeld (2004), 1st place at the Nordea Cup in Dianalund (2005), 1st place at the Otto Gurth von Ibenfeldt Memorial in Gausdal (2006), 2nd place at the Keres Memorial B in Tallinn (2007), 1st place 2nd place at the GM tournament in Reykjavík (2007), 2nd – 3rd Place at the University Cup in Kaunas (2009) and 2nd place at the Aivars Gipslis Memorial in Riga (2012). One of the well-known games of Miezis is a mate win on move 88 against David Navara at the European Team Championship 2011 - which is quite rare among grandmasters today .
He became international champion in 1993 and has held the title of grandmaster since 1997.
National team
With the Latvian national team, Miezis took part in all nine Chess Olympiads from 1998 to 2014 . He also took part in the European Team Championships in 1997, 1999, 2001, 2011 and 2015 and achieved the second-best individual result on the third board in 1999.
societies
In Latvia Miezis played for the team of Baltika Liepāja , with whom he participated in the 1997 European Club Cup . In the German Chess League he played from 2005 to 2007 and again from 2008 to 2011 for the Schachfreunde Berlin , in the Norwegian Eliteserien from 2006 to 2013 for the Moss Schakklub , with which he was Norwegian team champion in 2009 and took part in the European Club Cup. In the Belgian Interclubs Miezis played for Cercle des Echecs de Charleroi in the 2017/18 season , in the French Top 12 he played for Orcher la Tour Gonfreville in 2019 , and in the Swedish Elitserien he has played for Västerås SK since 2018 .
