Lothar Kliesch (born March 17, 1950 in Schlamau ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Kliesch completed his teaching degree from 1967 to 1971. From 1971 he worked as a subject teacher for mathematics, he taught at a high school in Fürstenberg . Between 1993 and 1996, he went on to study political education at the University of Potsdam . He interrupted his career in politics and only when he left the state parliament in 2004 did he return to school work and teach at the Marie-Curie-Gymnasium Hohen Neuendorf . Since May 2007 Kliesch has been working as a research associate at the Future, School and Business Network for Brandenburg . Kliesch is married and has three children.

Kliesch was one of the founding members of the SPD local club Himmelpfort in December 1989 and has been its chairman since 1996. In 1992 and 1993 he was chairman of the SPD sub-district Gransee, from 1993 to 1995 he was then deputy chairman of the SPD sub-district Oberhavel.

Already in 1989, when the Wall came down , Kliesch was elected honorary mayor of the community of Himmelpfort on November 27th . He remained Mayor of Himmelpfort until 2003. He was subsequently elected to other municipal political offices, from 1991 to 1993 he was a member of the Gransee district council , between 1993 and 1999 and again since 2003 a member of the Oberhavel district council . In the local elections in 2008, his mandate as a member of the district council was confirmed and Kliesch was also elected to the city ​​council of Fürstenberg and the local council of Himmelpfort, as well as the local mayor there .

In the state elections in Brandenburg in 1990 , Kliesch was elected to the Brandenburg state parliament as a direct candidate for the SPD in constituency 5 (Gransee-Templin II) . In the elections in 1994 and 1999 he was elected twice in constituency 5 (Oberhavel I). In the state elections of 2004 and 2009 he was defeated in the constituency of Uckermark III / Oberhavel IV against Torsten Krause of the PDS and Die Linke and missed re-election in the Potsdam state parliament. Kliesch was a member of parliament from October 26, 1990 to October 13, 2004. In the state parliament he was chairman of the committee for education, youth and sport from November 1990 to November 1993 and was a simple member of the committee until he left the state parliament or alternate member. He was also temporarily a member of the committees for economics, medium-sized businesses and technology and for food, agriculture and forestry.

Kliesch campaigned for the development of tourism in his region at both state and local level. From 1997 to 2003 he was also a member of the board of the Tourismusverband Land Brandenburg e. V., then its deputy chairman until 2008.

He is also a member of the union public services, transport and traffic and Ver.di .
