Torsten Krause
Torsten Krause (born September 18, 1981 in Köthen , Halle district , GDR ) is a German child rights expert and politician ( Die Linke ). From 2004 to 2014 he was a member of the Brandenburg State Parliament .
Life and work
Torsten Krause attended the Espengrund-Gymnasium in Potsdam , where he graduated from high school in 2001. He then completed basic military service in Brandenburg an der Havel . From 2002 to 2008 Krause was enrolled as a student of political science at the University of Potsdam . He finished his studies with a degree in political science. From 2010 to 2012 Torsten Krause studied at the Free University of Berlin in the course European Master for Children's Rights and Childhood Studies.
Krause volunteers in the Berlin-Brandenburgische Landjugend e. V. There he was a member of the state board from 1999 to 2007 and from 2001 to 2005 chairman of the state. In addition, Krause is a member of the educational advisory board of Trebnitz Castle - Education and Meeting Center e. V., in the Fürstenberger Förderverein Ravensbrück e. V. - remember - meet - help and in the Potsdam organization of UNICEF Germany.
After leaving the state parliament in 2014, Krause was head of the office of the Minister for Labor, Social Affairs, Health, Women and Family of the State of Brandenburg Diana Golze .
Torsten Krause is married and lives in Potsdam.
Political party
Krause was a member of the FDP in Potsdam from June 2001 to May 2002 . At that time he joined the party together with other young people and students in order to change its direction. In July 2005 he joined the Linkspartei.PDS , for which he sat in the state parliament from 2004 to 2014. From January 2010 to January 2012 he was chairman of his party in the Uckermark district .
MP
Torsten Krause was in 2004 for the then PDS in Constituency 10 (Uckermark III / Oberhavel IV) as a non-party and youngest candidate directly elected with 34.7% of the primary vote in the Brandenburg state parliament. In the state elections in 2009 , Krause again won the direct mandate. His constituency includes Gransee , Templin , Lychen , Boitzenburg Castle , Fürstenberg / Havel with the Ravensbrück and Zehdenick memorial .
In October 2008 Torsten Krause was also elected to the city council of Lychen and the district council of Uckermark. Torsten Krause returned the city council mandate in December 2011. In the Uckermark district council, he was chairman of the committee for culture, education and sport until October 2012. The district parliamentary group also sent him to the administrative board of Sparkasse Uckermark .
In the state parliamentary group, Krause was a member of the board of the left-wing parliamentary group from 2005 to 2009 . Since his election in 2004, he has represented his parliamentary group as spokesman for child and youth policy. From 2004 to 2014 he was a member of the Committee for Education, Youth and Sport (ABJS), which he has also chaired since 2010. Furthermore, Krause had been a member of the State Youth Welfare Committee (LJHA) since 2004. He also worked as a full member of the budget control committees (2004–2014) and budget and finance (2009–2014). In the past few years, Krause has campaigned for the financing of youth work and the right to vote for people aged 16 and over. As chairman of the Committee for Education, Youth and Sport, he made a necessary recommendation to Parliament at an early stage, which serves as the basis for the introduction of the right to vote from 16 at the municipal and state level. Torsten Krause also campaigned for the closure of the Haasenburg homes in the state of Brandenburg. After the state elections in Brandenburg in 2014 , he left the state parliament.
At the end of April 2015, it became known that the Potsdam Public Prosecutor's Office had initiated fraud investigations against Torsten Krause. He is suspected of having charged excessive travel costs totaling € 70,000 by stating a wrong place of residence (Lychen) during his time as a member of Parliament, although he was mainly in Potsdam. In February 2018, the Potsdam Public Prosecutor applied to the local court for a penalty warrant threatening him with a 10-month suspended sentence. This application was granted, Krause wants to appeal. He said he never wanted to gain an unjustified financial advantage and hoped to convince the court of his innocence. At the same time, Krause announced that his employment as office manager of Minister Golze would be terminated. The main hearing took place in autumn 2019. The Potsdam District Court acquitted Krause of all allegations on November 8, 2019.
