Sjarhej Asarau ( Belarusian Сяргей Азараў , Russian Сергей Николаевич Азаров , at the World Chess Federation FIDE Sergei Azarov ; born May 19, 1983 in Minsk ) is a Belarusian chess master .

In 2001 and 2002 he won the Belarusian individual championship in Minsk. In 2002 he finished first in the Challengers tournament at the Chess Congress in Hastings . At the U20 World Cup in 2003 in Naxçıvan , he finished second behind Şəhriyar Məmmədyarov . In 2005 he finished second in the Czech Open tournament with seven points from nine games. In 2006 he won the 5th Istanbul Chess Festival. In 2009 he won the Open Tournament in Béthune . At the Chess World Cup took Asarau 2011 and 2013 in part.

With the Belarusian national team he took part in the European Team Championships in 2001 and 2003 and in five Chess Olympiads between 2000 and 2008 .

He played club chess at the European Club Cups in 2001 and from 2003 to 2007 for Vesnianka Minsk , from 2009 to 2011 for the Ukrainian club A DAN DZO & PGMB Luhansk , with which he was Ukrainian team champion in 2010 and 2011, and in 2013 for PGMB Rostov-on-Don . In Romania he plays for the Sah Club Hidrocon Bacau , in the Czech extra league since 2006 for BŠŠ Frýdek-Místek , and in the Slovak extra league he played for the champions TJ Slávia CAISSA Čadca in the 2010/11 season . In Belgium he played for KSK Rochade Eupen-Kelmis in the 2012/13 season .
