Sergei Zhigalko ( Belarusian Сяргей Жыгалка , Russian Сергей Александрович Жигалко / Sergei Alexandrovich Schigalko , FIDE designation: Sergei Zhigalko , * 28. March 1989 in Minsk ) is a Belarusian grandmaster in chess .

Life

He is the brother of Andrej Schyhalka (* 1985), who is also a chess grandmaster. Schyhalka was European youth champion in 2003 and world youth champion under 14-year-olds in the same year (Norwegian star Magnus Carlsen , 20 months younger than Schyhalka, finished ninth). In 2006 he won the European Youth Championship for under 18s in Herceg Novi ( Montenegro ). In 2007 he shared second place in the state championship of Belarus, and in 2008 he was second. In November 2009 he finished, tied with the winner Maxime Vachier-Lagrave , second place at the Junior World Championship in Puerto Madryn . Schyhalka took part in the Chess World Cup twice ( 2007 and 2011 ) , but failed in both participation in the first round. In December 2017 he won the European Blitz Championship in Katowice . In 2004 Schyhalka was named international champion , fulfilled the required standards at the Belarusian individual championship in 2003, the European Club Cup in 2003, the A-Skanska Cup in 2004 and the Stork Young Masters in Hengelo in 2004 . He has been a grandmaster since 2007 and fulfilled the required standards at the European Club Cups in 2003 and 2005, at the Czech Open 2006 in Pardubice and at the Tschigorin Memorial 2006 in Saint Petersburg .

National team

With the Belarusian national team, Shyhalka took part in the 2008 , 2010 , 2012 , 2014 , 2016 and 2018 Chess Olympiads and the 2013, 2017 and 2019 European Team Championships.

In Belarus, Schyhalka plays for the team from Vesnianka Minsk , with whom he has participated in the European Club Cup six times since 2003. In the Russian team championship he played in 2011 for Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk and in 2013 for PGMB Rostov-on-Don , with both clubs he also took part in the European Club Cup. The Ukrainian team championship won Schyhalka 2010 with A DAN DZO & PGMB Tschernihiw , with whom he also reached third place at the European Club Cup in the same year. In the Polish team championship in 2010 and 2011 he played for LKS Pasjonat Dankowice , in the Chinese team championship 2012 for Zhejiang Yinzhou , in the Spanish team championship 2010 for CA Mérida Patrimonio-Ajoblanco and in the French Top 12 2018 for CE de Bois-Colombes .
