The Kelantan ( Malay Sungai Kelantan ) is a river in Malaysia .

geography

It is one of the three largest rivers on the Malay Peninsula . Its catchment area covers about 85% of the Kelantan state of the same name and is largely congruent with the state borders. The river is created by the confluence of the two rivers Sungai Galas and Sungai Lebir near the city of Kuala Krai . Its highest springs are at Gunung Korbu (2183 m). It flows into the South China Sea about 9 km north of the city of Kota Bharu .

Hydrology

In the winter months, during the rainy season, there are frequent floods.
