Thomas Koch (born February 12, 1972 in Aachen ) is a German chess player .

Life

Thomas Koch is a qualified computer scientist in Aachen, is married and has two children.

successes

In 1988 he won the German U17 youth championship in Töging and in 1989 in Berlin . At the U18 Youth World Cup in Singapore in 1990 , he shared 3rd to 5th place behind Sergey Tiviakov , Wladimir Kramnik , together with Peter Heine Nielsen and Tong Yuanming. He was fifth in the ranking. In 1991 he won the 1st international championship tournament at Bayer Leverkusen by rating. In 2000 he won the German individual championship in blitz chess in Gladenbach .

In Germany he played for the DJK Arminia Eilendorf club in 1928 and since then for the Aachener Schachverein 1856 (including in the 2019/20 season in the 1st Bundesliga ) with the exception of the 1996/97 and 1997/98 seasons when he played for the Post-Telekom Sports Club Aachen started . In Belgium he plays for the club KSK 47 Eynatten , with whom he won the Belgian championship four times in 2006 , 2011 , 2014 and 2017 . He took part in the European Club Cup six times for Eynatten , in 2011 in Rogaška Slatina , 2012 in Eilat , 2013 in Rhodes , 2014 in Bilbao , 2016 in Novi Sad and 2018 in Porto Carras .

Thomas Koch received the title of FIDE Master in 1992. He received the title of International Master in April 2012. He achieved his IM standards in 1991 at the Leverkusen championship tournament, in 2001 in the 2nd Bundesliga West and in 2007 and 2011 in the Oberliga NRW. He met another IM norm in 1990 at the First Saturday tournament in Budapest .
