Aryan Tari ( Persian آریـن طاری/ Āryan Ṭārī ; * 4. June 1999 in Stavanger ) is a Norwegian chess - Grand Master of Iranian origin. In 2015 he won the Norwegian Chess Championship and in 2017 the Junior World Championship .

Career

Tari, whose parents come from Iran, was already successful in the junior area. At a U12 World Championship, he finished 5th. At the age of 13, he achieved his first GM standard through his strong performance at the Open Norwegian Championship 2013 and won the Norwegian U20 Championship. This made him the youngest U20 champion in Norwegian chess history. In 2013 he achieved the titles of FIDE Master and International Master . In 2015 he won the Norwegian Chess Championship with 7/9 points, making him the third youngest winner of the tournament after Magnus Carlsen and Simen Agdestein .

Through these early successes, Aryan Tari was seen by many as the successor to the Norwegian world chess champion Magnus Carlsen. Tari played in important tournaments in the following years. In May 2016 he achieved 22nd place at the individual European championship with 7.5 / 11 points. This placement entitles him to participate in the Chess World Cup 2017 , which will take place from 3.-27. September 2017 took place in Tbilisi . The tournament was played in knockout mode . In the first round, Tari surprisingly prevailed against the English grandmaster David Howell , then he was defeated by the American GM Alex Lenderman . In July 2019 Tari became Norwegian champion for the second time in Larvik .

In the German Bundesliga he played for SC Hansa Dortmund from 2014 to 2016 and for the Solingen chess company since 2018 . Tari won the Danish Skakligaen in 2019 with the Xtracon Køge team , and in the Belgian Interclubs he played for the chess friends Wirtzfeld in the 2019/20 season .
