Jean-Louis Ormond

Jean-Louis Ormond (born November 22, 1894 , † October 29, 1986 in Corseaux ) was a Swiss chess official and chess player.

Ormond did a great job building up Swiss chess. In 1918 he founded the Vevey chess club. He then organized and sponsored local tournaments. From 1925 he worked with the Swiss Chess Federation SSV , from 1937 to 1941 he was president of the SSV.

After the Second World War he organized correspondence chess tournaments in Switzerland until 1966. In 1964 he donated a golden cup for the correspondence chess tournament "Goldener Springer".

He was also involved in the international correspondence chess association ICCF . From 1951 to 1953 he held the office of President, for which he was awarded honorary membership in 1965.

Tournament chess

In 1936, Ormond took part in the unofficial Chess Olympiad in Munich with the Swiss team . From 1938 to 1946 he played five times for the Swiss championship . Here he achieved his best result with 3rd place in 1943.

Correspondence chess

Ormond began playing correspondence chess in the early 1940s . At the first Swiss correspondence chess championship in 1941/42 he came in fourth place, at the second championship in 1943/44 he improved to second place. Later he took part in several international tournaments.

Honors

Because of his organizational merits he was made an honorary member of the Swiss Chess Federation in 1941 and an honorary member of the ICCF in 1965 . In 1984 he was awarded the Bertl von Massow medal in gold.
