Márcio Passos de Albuquerque , also known as Marcio Emerson Passos , Emerson and Emerson Sheikh (born September 6 or December 6, 1978 in Nova Iguaçu , Brazil ) is a former Brazilian - Qatari football player . Between 2009 and 2011 he was the champion of Brazil with three different clubs .

Emerson works as a football coordinator at Corinthians São Paulo

Career

Emerson started playing soccer at a neighborhood club when he was 13. First, Emerson, who had worked his way up, was active for São Paulo FC . Since the friend and fan of the player Kaká didn't want to wait to get into the first team, he moved to Japan to play for Consadole Sapporo in the second division. In the 2000 season, the striker scored 31 times in 34 games. After the season he moved to another second division club, Kawasaki Frontale , where he was able to continue his impressive record with 19 goals in 18 games, so that he got a contract with the first division club Urawa Red Diamonds during the break of the 2001 season . There he continued to play very successfully. In 2003 he won the League Cup with Urawa and he was Japan's Footballer of the Year and 2004 top scorer in the J. League .

In the summer of 2005, Emerson moved to Qatar to join Al-Sadd . In 2007 he moved on to France, where he joined Stade Rennes . On January 1, 2008, he went back to Al-Sadd and took part with the club in the 2008 AFC Champions League . Al-Sadd offered him naturalization, which is usually next to impossible for other professions in Qatar. He accepted this offer and has since played three times for the Qatari national football team .

However, there was an incident on January 20, 2006. Emerson was stopped by Brazilian police for forging his birth certificate to appear three years younger.

Another big upset came in April 2008 when it was discovered that he had already played for the U20 national team of Brazil (without being a Qatari national at the time) and was therefore no longer eligible to play for Qatar. But he played on March 26, 2008 for Qatar in the World Cup qualification against Iraq. Qatar won 2-0 and that last enabled them to advance to the next qualifying round. Iraq was eliminated. FIFA looked into the matter and ruled that the Qatari Sports Federation was innocent. Emerson was suspended for the Qatari national team, but the score was upheld.

In 2009, 2010 and 2011 he was the Brazilian soccer champion with Flamengo Rio de Janeiro , Fluminense Rio de Janeiro and Corinthians São Paulo , making him the only player in Brazil to win three consecutive championships with three different clubs. At the 2010 championship with Fluminense, he scored the goal of the all-important 1-0 win against Guarani FC from Campinas on the last day of the match, just under half an hour before the end of the game . With Flamengo, he also won the 2009 Rio de Janeiro State Championship.

In 2012 he won the Copa Libertadores with Corinthians . After a 1-1 draw in the final first leg at CA Boca Juniors in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, Emerson scored both goals in the 2-0 win in the second leg at the Pacaembu stadium at home in the second half.
