The J.League Division 2 1999 was the first season of the Japanese J.League Division 2 , a division of the J.League founded this year . Ten clubs took part in it. The season started on March 14th and ended on November 21st, 1999.
The first champion of the new division was Kawasaki Frontale . In addition to Frontale, the runner-up FC Tokyo also rose to the J.League Division 1 in 2000 .
mode
The season was played in a double, double round tournament, the clubs played four times against each other, twice at home and twice away. If there was a tie after 90 minutes, the playing time was extended by two fifteen minutes, whereby the golden goal rule was applied. If it was still a draw after that, the game was counted as such.
There were three points for a win after regular time and two points for a win in extra time; in the event of a tie there was a counter for each team. The table for each semi-series was created according to the following criteria:
- Number of points scored
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Results of the games among themselves
- Decision game or coin toss
The two clubs with the most points rose to the J.League Division 1 2000 at the end of the season .
Attendees
A total of ten teams were selected to participate in the first season of Division 2. Nine of them were teams that last played in the Japan Football League and were interested in joining professional football. The field of participants was completed by Consadole Sapporo , who was relegated from the J.League 1998 through a play-down tournament .
Some of the clubs changed their names before the start of the season, mostly to illustrate the change from amateur to professionalism or to show a separation from the previous sponsoring company. So JFL champion Tokyo Gas changed his name to FC Tokyo , the sixth place Ōita FC became Ōita Trinita ; the Seventh Brummell Sendai finally renamed itself Vegalta Sendai .
