The Japan Football League 1996 was the fifth season of the Japan Football League , a league at the second level of the Japanese football league hierarchy. A total of sixteen clubs took part in it.
With Honda Motors was the first time a club was a master who was not an extraordinary member of the J. League , in contrast to the runner-up Vissel Kobe , who rose to the 1997 J. League . There was no relegation to the regional league , but both Tosu Futures and Cosmo Oil Yokkaichi withdrew from the league at the end of the season and then broke up. Instead of the futures, however, a successor club was founded with Sagan Tosu , which took over their place in the Japan Football League in 1997 .
mode
The teams played a simple double round tournament , so that each club had to play a total of 30 games. Similar to the mode of the J. League 1996 there were no draws; are level after 90 minutes of the playing time was about twice fifteen minutes extended , the golden goal rule was used. If it was still a draw after that, the winner of the game was determined by a penalty shoot-out .
There were three points for a win and one point for a defeat on penalties. The table was created according to the following criteria:
- Number of points scored
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Results of the games among themselves
- Decision game or coin toss
The two best teams rose to the J. League in 1997 , provided they had the status of a so-called Associate Member of the J. League. Depending on the promotion, up to two teams were relegated to the corresponding regional league .
Attendees
A total of sixteen teams took part in the competition. As in the previous year, two teams were promoted to the J. League in 1996 ; Fukuoka Blux and Kyōto Purple Sanga were accepted as new members in the Japanese professional league.
With the rise of Fukuoka and Kyoto there were no relegated teams from the Japan Football League in 1995. The field was supplemented by the two best teams in the regional league finals , Ōita FC and DENSO SC .
Again, some clubs changed their names and sometimes their venues before the start of the season. With the aim of gaining more fans, Ōtsuka Pharmaceutical expanded its name to Ōtsuka Pharmaceutical Vortis Tokushima , mostly abbreviated to Vortis Tokushima . NEC Yamagata also changed its name to Montedio Yamagata . Toshiba SC finally moved from Kawasaki , Kanagawa , which at that time was home to several clubs, to Sapporo , Hokkaidō , and from then on called itself Consadole Sapporo . With the change of location, Consadole also received so-called Associate Membership , as did Brummell Sendai , which had also successfully applied for this.
