The Japan Football League 1992 was the first season of the newly formed Japan Football League , a league at the second and third levels of the Japanese football league hierarchy. A total of twenty clubs took part in it. Due to the change of the game year from autumn-spring rhythm to the calendar year for the 1993 season, this season had the character of a transitional season. This was particularly evident from the fact that there were still no promoters to the newly founded J. League , as it was not supposed to start playing until the following year .

First champion of the new division was Yamaha ahead of Hitachi . Relegated from Division 1 to Division 2 for the 1993 season were Honda Motors and NKK , Chūō Bōhan and Kyōto Shiko Club rose from Division 2 to Division 1. Tanabe Pharmaceutical and Osaka Gas had to leave the league in the direction of the regional league .

mode

The twenty teams were divided into two divisions of ten teams each. Each division played a simple double round tournament , so each club had to play a total of 18 games. There were three points for a win, and each team received one point for a draw. The table was created according to the following criteria:

  1. Number of points scored
  2. Goal difference
  3. Goals scored
  4. Results of the games among themselves
  5. Decision game or coin toss

The best team in Division 1 won the championship. Two teams were exchanged between the two divisions at the end of the season. Finally, the two worst teams in Division 2 were relegated to the corresponding regional league .

Attendees

In Japanese football, fundamental changes in the structure of the league game operations took place after the 1991/92 season. Up to this point in time, only company teams took part in matches, especially those of the highest leagues, which also had amateur status throughout. This changed with the introduction of the professional J. League for the 1993 season , in which nine teams from the Japan Soccer League 1991/92 and the newly founded club Shimizu S-Pulse were included. The other teams of the two Japan Soccer League divisions were transferred to the Japan Football League, with the exception of the second team of Yomiuri SC , which was merged with the first team, which was included in the J. League under the name Verdy Kawasaki .

The top ten teams from both divisions that had not received J. League approval formed Division 1.
