The 2008 Japan Football League was the tenth season of the Japan Football League . Eighteen clubs took part in it. The season started on March 16 and ended on November 30, 2008.

Honda FC won the championship. The extraordinary J. League members Tochigi SC , Kataller Toyama and Fagiano Okayama promoted to the J. League Division 2 2009 on. Due to the three J2 promoted players, there were no relegations to the regional leagues at the end of the season, as in the previous year .

mode

The clubs held a simple double round tournament . There were three points for a win; in the event of a tie, each team received a counter. The table for each semi-series was created according to the following criteria:

  1. Number of points scored
  2. Goal difference
  3. Goals scored
  4. Results of the games among themselves
  5. Decision game or coin toss

For promotion to the J. League Division 2 2009 only clubs were eligible that had the extraordinary membership of the J. League , completed at the end of the season within the top four of the table and withstood a final review by the J. League .

The two worst teams were originally supposed to relegate directly to the regional leagues, and relegation games were also planned for the sixteenth against the third-placed team in the regional league finals . However, due to three promoters in the J. League, relegation was completely suspended at the end of the season.

Attendees

A total of eighteen teams took part in the season. The two promoted J. League Division 2 2008 , Rosso Kumamoto and FC Gifu were no longer there . In addition, the two clubs located in Toyama Prefecture, ALO's Hokuriku and YKK AP SC, merged to form a new club called Kataller Toyama , which freed up another place in the league. The three available places were occupied by the three best teams of the regional league finals 2007, Fagiano Okayama , New Wave Kitakyushu and MIO Biwako Kusatsu .

Before the start of this season, two other clubs received the status of extraordinary J. League member with newly promoted New Wave Kitakyūshū and the merger club from Toyama . This increased the number of extraordinary members in the league to a total of five despite the rise of Rosso and Gifu, as Fagiano Okayama had received this status last summer in addition to the two new members and the two remaining clubs from Tochigi and Tottori.

The other merger club in the league was renamed, Sagawa Express SC became Sagawa Shiga FC .
