Sony Sendai FC ( Japanese ソ ニ ー 仙台 FC Sonī Sendai Efu Shī ) is a Japanese football club from Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture . He is one of the founding members of the Japan Football League who have never been relegated from the league.
history
The association was founded in 1968 by employees of the Sony factory in Sendai. Until the early 1990s, the club played exclusively in the leagues of Miyagi Prefecture. This only changed in 1993 when the goal was set to reach the old Japan Football League within five years . From 1994 to 1997 Sony Sendai celebrated four championships in a row, first in the prefecture league, then in the Tōhoku -Regionalliga. At the end of the 1997 season, the set goal was finally achieved by winning the national regional league finals .
With the establishment of the J. League Division 2 for the 1999 season, Sony Sendai decided to remain in the amateur camp and instead join the restructured Japan Football League . Since then, the club has been able to establish itself as a midfield team in the league.
The Tōhoku earthquake in 2011 almost caused the club's relegation. With the permission of the JFL, the first eleven of a total of 34 match days of the belated season were suspended. Only the points from the second half of the season counted in the table, points from the six remaining days of the preliminary round could be counted as bonus points. Given these circumstances, it was expected to come in last place. However, since two clubs, Machida Zelvia and Matsumoto Yamaga, were accepted into the J. League Division 2 and the reserve team from JEF United announced in the middle of the season that they would withdraw the team from the league after the season, regardless of their placement, it was finally possible still remain in the league.
Stadion
The club plays its home games at the Yurtec Stadium Sendai ( Japanese 仙台 ス タ ジ ア ム, Sendai Sutajiamu ) in Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture . The stadium, owned by the city of Sendai, has a capacity of 19,694 spectators.
