Veertien Mie ( Japanese ヴ ィ ア テ ィ ン 三重 Viatin Mie ) is a Japanese football club. Official hometowns are the cities of Kuwana and Yokkaichi and their surrounding areas in Mie Prefecture . The club has played in the Japan Football League since 2017 .
history
The club was founded in January 2012 as Veertien FC and began playing in the lowest division (Division 3) in Mie Prefecture in the same year . Since then, the team has increased one league each year; for the 2015 season, Division 2 of the Tōkai - Regionalliga was reached, a year later the promotion to Division 1 of the Regionalliga took place. Although only third place was achieved there, the team qualified for third place in the amateur cup for the regional league finals . After winning the preliminary group, Veertien achieved second place in the finals with a win in the decisive third group game over local rivals Suzuka Unlimited FC , which was equivalent to qualifying for the Japan Football League .
Veertien has changed name twice in its history. At the beginning of 2013 the company was renamed Veertien Kuwana for the first time , and when it reached the Regional League two years later, the name changed again to Veertien Mie . The club's long-term goal is to reach the J. League , which was already underpinned by the submission of an application for the status of Extraordinary J. League Member in 2013. However, the relevant league committee rejected the application on the grounds that the documents were incomplete; a new attempt has not yet been made.
Club name
Veertien is the Dutch word for the number fourteen . The reference to Dutch, which is unusual for the naming of Japanese football clubs, comes from the fact that Veertien Mie is supposed to meet “three generations to play sport together”, similar to the Netherlands. The number 14 was also Johan Cruyff's shirt number . The admiration for Cruyff and the Netherlands is also expressed in orange as the club color and in the club emblem, which contains a winged lion as a reference to the Dutch coat of arms and the nickname of Cruyff ("The Flying Dutchman").
