The Tochigi SC ( Japanese 栃 木 SC; Tochigi Esu Shī ) is a football club from Utsunomiya , Tochigi Prefecture , Japan.
It is the only professional club that has the American term "soccer" in its name. This is mainly due to the efforts of the league management to spread the British term "football".
The club's coat of arms served as a template for the Hong Kong first division club Tai Chung FC .
history
The association was founded in 1953 in Tochigi Prefecture by teachers. Accordingly, the club was called Tochigi Teacher's Football Club (Japanese 栃 木 教員 サ ッ カ ー 部, Tochigi Kyōin Sakka Bu ). After other professional groups were also admitted to the club, the misleading name was got rid of in 1994 and from then on ran as the Tochigi Soccer Club .
In 2005 a task force was founded with the aim of advancing to the professionalized J. League Division 1 . In January 2007 the club received the license and was able to rise due to the sporting success in the 2009 season.
