Thespakusatsu Gunma ( Japanese ザ ス パ ク サ ツ 群 馬 , Zasupa Kusatsu Gunma ) is a Japanese football club from Gunma Prefecture . The club was founded as Thespa Kusatsu in 2005 and played in the J2 League up to and including 2017 , and since then in the 3rd division. The name was changed to the current name in February 2013.

Since Kusatsu is known as a spa and bathing resort, the nickname can be read as "The Spa" and has no other meaning.

history

The association was founded in 1995 in Kusatsu . At first he ran under the name Liaison Kusatsu Football Club . The players came from the Higashi Nihon Soccer Academy in the early years . The school had to close in 1999 due to financial difficulties. Nevertheless, the players decided to stay in Kusatsu and continue the club.

In 2002, the club was reorganized as KK Kusatsu Onsen Football Club ( 株式会社 草津 温泉 サ ッ カ ー ク ラ ブ , kabushiki-gaisha Kusatsu Onsen Sakkā Kurabu ) as a public company, in the hope of making the leap to professional football in the medium term. Later the name was changed to Thespa Kusatsu one more time.

In 2003 he made the leap into the third-class Japan Football League for the first time and in 2004 even for the first time into professional football. Since then, Thespa Kusatsu has been able to establish itself in the J2 League .

In order to emphasize the affiliation to Gunma Prefecture more, the name of the association was changed again to Thespakusatsu Gunma. The logo remained unchanged.

Stadion

Due to the strict regulations of the J. League , the club has to play its home games in the nearby prefecture capital Maebashi . The Shoda Shoyu Stadium Gunma is a multi-purpose stadium, sponsored by the soy sauce manufacturer Shoda Shoyu and can accommodate up to 15,253 people.
