The China Creek is a body of water and wooded area in Vancouver Island , British Columbia , Canada . At the China Creek, directly at the inflow into the Alberni Inlet , there is a small port (China Creek Marina) and a campsite, about nine kilometers south of Port Alberni . In addition to the inlet, the port can be reached via Franklin River Road. The water itself rises about 10 kilometers east of the inlet and then flows into the inlet.

history

Gold was discovered at China Creek in 1862, followed by other small finds in Alberni Inlet at China Creek and Mineral Creek in the 1890s . The prospect for gold extended well into the 1960s, with activities peaking in the 1930s. For example, a mining line operated by the Alberni-Pacific Lumber Company led from Port Alberni into China Creek, while a one and a half mile long trail led from the claims at Mount McQuillan (about 3 km southeast of the mouth of China Creek) to the railway line. The origin of the name China Creek also has something to do with prospecting for gold, as it was predominantly Chinese who operated the prospecting business in the mid-19th century.
