The 2006 Japan Football League was the eighth season of the Japan Football League . Eighteen clubs took part in it. The season started on March 19 and ended on December 3, 2006.

Honda FC won the championship. During the season, Rosso Kumamoto was the first club to receive the re-introduced Extraordinary Membership of the J. League , which has been the main criterion for admission to the professional league since this season, but failed to achieve promotion in a sporting way with a 5th place. Honda Lock SC increased after two clear defeats in the relegation matches against the runner-up of the regional leagues final round , FC Gifu , in the Kyushu - Regional from.

mode

The clubs held a simple double round tournament . There were three points for a win; in the event of a tie, each team received a counter. The table for each semi-series was created according to the following criteria:

  1. Number of points scored
  2. Goal difference
  3. Goals scored
  4. Results of the games among themselves
  5. Decision game or coin toss

For promotion to the J. League Division 2 2007 only clubs were eligible that had the Extraordinary Membership of the J. League , completed at the end of the season within the top four of the table and withstood a final review by the J. League .

Relegation games were originally planned for the two worst teams against the two best teams in the regional league final round , with the JFL penultimate against the final round second and the JFL last against the final round champion. Due to the merger of the two teams of Sagawa Express for the following season, the penultimate remained directly in the league, the final round champion rose directly and the last played in a round trip against the final round second. In the event of a tie after these two games, extra time and, if necessary, a penalty shoot- out was carried out.

Attendees

A total of eighteen teams took part in the season, two more than in the 2005 season . The preseason champions Ehime FC , who were promoted to the J. League Division 2 in 2006 , were no longer there . Due to the expansion of the field of participants, however, there were no relegations to the regional leagues.

To complete the field of participants, the three best clubs of the regional league finals 2005, FC Ryūkyū , JEF Club (the reserve of the J. League Club) and Rosso Kumamoto , rose to the Japan Football League.

Before this season, two teams also changed their structures from company teams to independent clubs, which went hand in hand with corresponding name changes. From FC Horikoshi was Arte Takasaki , DENSO FC named to FC Kariya order.

    Relegation

After the end of the season, shortly before the turn of the year, the relegation games between the Japan Football League and the best teams in the regional league finals took place. The original plan was that the sixteenth against the final round winner and the fifteenth against the runner-up should play; after the established merger of the two Sagawa Express clubs in the following season, however, the final round champion TDK SC was allowed to rise directly, the runner-up FC Gifu competed in two games with the bottom of the JFL table Honda Lock SC, the penultimate Mitsubishi Motors Mizushima FC was spared.

Both games were won by the lower class club; after a 4-0 win in the first leg in Miyazaki, the second leg in Gifu , Gifu was clearly won 4-1.
