Kariya ( Japanese 刈谷市 , - shi ) is a city in the Japanese prefecture of Aichi .

The city is approximately 30 km from Japan's fourth largest city, Nagoya , by rail .

history

1533 built Mizuno Tadamasa († 1543) a castle, whereby the place to Meiji restoration to Burgenstadt was. Most recently a branch of the Doi resided at Kariya Castle .

In 1929 a longitudinal wave transmitter with 8 steel truss masts, each 250 meters high and insulated from the ground, was built. At the time of completion, these masts were the tallest structures in Japan. The radio station was used during the Second World War, among other things, to relay orders for the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor . These towers were dismantled in 1997. A tower stump was preserved in a museum.

On April 1, 1950, the city was declared an independent city ( shi ).

economy

There are Toyota Motor Corporation related companies in the city such as Toyota Industries Corporation , Toyota Boshoku Corporation, and Denso Corporation . The Toyoda Automatic Loom Works , Toyoda jidoshoki , was the original company or kaisha , the subsidiary Toyota Motor Corporation founded. Because Toyoda Automatic Loom Works was so financially successful, the company's management decided to invest large parts of the profits in the growing automotive business.

education

As a notable educational institution located in Kariya State Pedagogical University Aichi ( Aichi University of Education (AUE)), which is connected a secondary school. Both facilities are located in the Igaya district in the extreme north of the urban area.
