Chiryū ( Japanese 知 立 市 , - shi ) is a city in Aichi Prefecture on Honshū , the main island of Japan .

geography

Chiryū is southeast of Nagoya and west of Okazaki .

history

In the Edo period , the place was one of the Tokaidō's post stations and was written as 池 鯉 鮒 with the same pronunciation .

The city of Chiryū was founded on December 1, 1970 .
