Location of Kasugais in Aichi Prefecture

Kasugai ( Japanese 春日井市 , -shi ) is a city a few kilometers north of Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture on Honshū , the main island of Japan .

geography

Kasugai is located north of Nagoya and extends over the Nōbi plain and the Owari range of hills. The Shōnai , a 27 km long river, flows through the south of the city .

In the east of the city, the Kōzōji New Town, a large dormitory city for Nagoya, was built. Kasugai borders the cities of Nagoya ( Kita and Moriyama Districts ), Seto , Komaki , Inuyama and Toyoyama in Aichi, and the city of Tajimi in Gifu Prefecture .

history

Kasugai was on June 1, 1943 merger of the villages Kawaga, Toriimatsu, shinogi and Takaki from the county established Higashi Kasugai. This was done so that the factories located in the villages could be used more efficiently for arms production during World War II. On January 1, 1958, the villages of Sakashita and Kōzōji were incorporated. On April 1, 2001, the city was finally made a major city with special status , whereby some administrative tasks were transferred from the Aichi Prefecture.
