Tsushima ( Japanese 津 島 市 , -shi ) is a city in Aichi Prefecture on Honshū , the main island of Japan .

history

The area of ​​today's city of Tsushima has been populated for at least 1,000 years, with Tsushima developing primarily as a temple suburb to become the Tsushima shrine. In the 20th century, Tsushima was an important location for the textile industry. The administrative unit Tsushima was founded as a village in 1871 , raised to a district city ( Machi ) in 1889 and on March 1, 1947 to an independent city ( Shi ). In 1925, 1955 and 1956 parts of the surrounding villages Saori, Kamori and Eiwa were incorporated.
