history

The university was founded in 1949 through the merger of the three state normal schools . The three were:

  • the first normal school Aichi ( 愛 知 第一 師範学校 , Aichi dai-ichi shihan gakkō , in Nagoya , founded in 1873),
  • the Second Normal School Aichi ( 愛 知 第二 師範学校 , Aichi dai-ni shihan gakkō , in Toyokawa , founded in 1899), and
  • the youth normal school Aichi ( 愛 知 青年 師範学校 , Aichi his shihan gakkō , in Anjō , founded in 1918).

First normal school Aichi

The Aichi First Normal School was founded in Nagoya in 1873 as a prefectural teacher training institution. Over the years she renamed herself a few times; In 1899 it was renamed the Aichi Prefectural First Normal School ( 愛 知 県 第一 師範学校 , Aichi-ken dai-ichi shihan gakkō ). In 1912 the women's department developed into the Aichi Prefectural Normal School for Women. In 1943, the men's and women's normal schools were merged to form the state's first normal school in Aichi.

Second normal school Aichi

Aichi Second Normal School was founded in Okazaki in 1899 as Aichi Prefectural Second Normal School. In 1923 it was renamed the Okazaki Prefectural Normal School ( 愛 知 県 岡 崎 師範学校 , Aichi-ken Okazaki shihan gakkō ). In 1943 she was raised to the state Second Normal School Aichi. In July 1945, during the Pacific War , the men's department school buildings were destroyed; the men's division moved to Toyokawa, a former military base.

Aichi youth normal school

The normal youth school was founded in 1918 as a prefectural educational institution for the training of agricultural teachers. In 1935 it became a training institution for teachers in youth schools. In 1944 she was raised to the state youth normal school Aichi.

Aichi University of Education

The college was opened as the College of Liberal Arts Aichi ( 愛 知 学 芸 大学 , Aichi gakugei daigaku ). It first had three branch campuses in Nagoya, Toyokawa (from 1950 Okazaki) and Anjō (closed in 1952). In 1966 it was renamed the Aichi University of Education. In 1970 the current campus in Kariya was reopened and the campuses in Nagoya and Okazaki were given up. Masters courses have been offered since 1977, and the university has had the right to award doctorates since 2012 (the latter only in cooperation with Shizuoka University ).
