Takehisa Matsubara

Takehisa Matsubara ( Japanese 松原 武 久 , Matsubara Takehisa ; born January 26, 1937 in Owariasahi , Aichi Prefecture ) was Mayor of Nagoya City from 1997 to 2009 .

Matsubara studied at Aichi Gakugei University (now Aichi University of Education ). He later worked as a teacher and in education.

In April 1997, Matsubara was first elected mayor of Nagoya. In 2001 and 2005 he was confirmed in office. In December 2003 he was elected chairman of the Mayors Association of Designated Cities and in April 2006 he was re-elected. In 2008 Matsubara announced his retirement from office after the current term of office, on April 26, 2009 Takashi Kawamura won the election for his successor.
