Eberhard Pohl

Eberhard Pohl (born November 12, 1953 in Linnich ) is a German diplomat .

Life

After graduating from high school , Pohl studied law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn between 1975 and 1979 and completed his studies in 1980 with the first state examination in Bonn and his legal clerkship in 1982 with the second state examination in Düsseldorf . In 1982 he joined the foreign service and, after completing the career examination, was consul at the consulate general in Kobe from 1984 to 1987 and then until 1990 advisor for European political cooperation in the foreign office .

After a subsequent assignment as Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Ghana , he was Counselor and Head of the Political Department of the Permanent Mission to NATO in Brussels between 1992 and 1996 . In 1996 he returned to the Federal Foreign Office, where he was Deputy Head of Unit for Fundamental Matters of Defense and Security Policy, before he was Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna between 2000 and 2004 . In 2004 he was appointed head of division for fundamental questions of defense and security policy and subsequently in 2006 as special representative for security policy at the Federal Foreign Office. He then became Deputy Political Director of the Federal Foreign Office in 2007.

On August 3, 2011, Eberhard Pohl became ambassador to Turkey as successor to Eckart Cuntz , who in turn was appointed ambassador to Belgium . From July 2015 to July 2019 he was Permanent Representative to the OSCE .
