Eckart Cuntz

Eckart Cuntz (born April 3, 1950 in Mannheim ) is a German diplomat and was the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Belgium from August 2011 to June 2015 .

Life

Eckart Cuntz attended after high school in 1968 at the Matthias-Grünewald-Gymnasium in Tauberbischofsheim 1969-1973 to study law at the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg and later at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg .

Since 1975 he has been part of the Foreign Service of the Federal Republic of Germany. After training as an attaché , he worked in the embassies in Kabul from 1977 to 1982 , Kuala Lumpur from 1977 to 1980 and Luanda from 1980 to 1983, among others . From 1983 to 1985 he performed at the Foreign Office in Bonn in Unit his ministry Atlantic Alliance and defense. During this time he put his 1985 promotion to Dr. jur. at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover with a dissertation on the subject of soldiers' loyalty to the constitution .

In 1985, at the age of 34, he took up his first post as ambassador to Brunei , making him the youngest ever ambassador for the Federal Republic of Germany. From 1988 to 1990 he worked for the Permanent Representation to the European Communities in Brussels . In 1991 he returned to the Foreign Office and was entrusted with the management of the Political Union / Treaty Negotiations and Ratification Maastricht unit . From 1993 to 1994 he worked in the German embassy in Tehran . As Head of Cabinet of the Secretary General of the Council of the European Union , he returned to Brussels until 1999 before he was appointed Ministerial Director to Berlin. From 2001 to 2003 he was Deputy Head of the European Department of the Foreign Office, before he was promoted to Ministerial Director in 2003 and took over its management. From 2006 to 2011 he was ambassador to Turkey .

Since August 2011, Cuntz as successor to the retiring offset Reinhard Bettzuege ambassador to Belgium , while Eberhard Pohl new ambassador to Turkey was.

The mathematician Joachim Cuntz , who was awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize , is his brother.
