The University of Shizuoka ( Jap. 静岡大学 , Shizuoka daigaku ) is a state university in Japan . The main campus is located in Ōya, Suruga-ku , Shizuoka in Shizuoka Prefecture .

history

The university was founded in 1949 through the merger of the five state schools. The five were:

  • the Shizuoka High School ( 静岡 高等学校 , Shizuoka kōtō gakkō , founded 1922),
  • the first normal school Shizuoka ( 静岡 第一 師範学校 , Shizuoka dai-ichi shihan gakkō , founded 1875),
  • the Second Normal School Shizuoka ( 静岡 第二 師範学校 , Shizuoka dai-ni shihan gakkō in Hamamatsu , founded in 1914),
  • the youth normal school Shizuoka ( 静岡 青年 師範学校 , Shizuoka his shihan gakkō in Shimada , founded in 1926), and
  • the Hamamatsu Technical Center ( 浜 松 工業 専 門 学校 , Hamamatsu kōgyō semmon gakkō , founded in 1922).

The Hamamatsu Technical Center was known for research on television by Takayanagi Kenjirō .

In 1951, the former Shizuoka Prefectural Agricultural College ( 静岡 県 立 静岡 農科 大学 , Shizuoka-kenritsu Shizuoka nōka daigaku in Iwata ) became the Faculty of Agriculture. In 1968, today's Shizuoka campus was reopened, and the faculties except the Technical Faculty (in Hamamatsu) moved into the campus.
