Nobuyuki Satō

Nobuyuki Satō ( Japanese 佐藤 信 之 , Satō Nobuyuki ; born August 8, 1972 in Kariya , Aichi Prefecture ) is a former Japanese long-distance runner who had specialized in the marathon .

He made his debut over the marathon distance in 1996 at the Fukuoka Marathon , which he finished in 16 th place in 2:17:48 h. The following year, he improved himself to sixth in the Lake Biwa Marathon to 2:12:28 h. In 1998 he achieved his career best by finishing second in the Fukuoka Marathon with a time of 2:08:48 h.

He achieved the greatest success of his career at the 1999 World Athletics Championships in Seville by winning the bronze medal in 2:14:07 h. In his typically aggressive manner, Satō broke away after 25 kilometers from the peloton and took the lead in the race. A few kilometers from the finish, however, he was overtaken by World Champion Abel Antón and Vincenzo Modica .

Because of his performance at the World Championships, Satō was nominated by the Japanese Association for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . There, however, he could not meet expectations with 41st place in 2:20:52 h.

The following year he was fourth in the Beijing Marathon in 2:10:32 h.

Nobuyaki Satō had a competition weight of 57 kg with a height of 1.75 m. He currently works as a coach on the Toyota Bokoshi corporate team .
