Vincenzo Modica

Vincenzo Modica (born March 2, 1971 in Mistretta ) is an Italian long-distance runner who had his greatest successes in the marathon .

In 1991 he was Italian champion in 10,000 meters , in 1993 and 1997 in cross country and from 1992 to 1994 in half marathon .

In 1996 he finished third in the Venice Marathon in his personal best of 2:11:39 h. At the European Athletics Championships in Budapest in 1998 he won the bronze medal and at the 1999 World Athletics Championships in Seville, the silver medal behind Abel Antón (ESP) and in front of Nobuyuki Satō (JPN). In the marathon of the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000 he did not reach the goal.

In 2005 he was fourth in the Maratona di Sant'Antonio Italian marathon champion with a time of 2:14:03 h.

Nicknamed “Massimo”, the runner is 1.68 m tall, weighs 53 kg and competes for the Fiamme Oro Padova club. He is married with a son and is employed by the police.
