Nobuyuki Satō (Judoka)

Nobuyuki Satō ( Japanese 佐藤 宣 践 , Satō Nobuyuki ; born January 12, 1944 ) is a former Japanese judoka who was light heavyweight champion in 1967 and 1973, the weight class up to 93 kilograms.

Nobuyuki Satō finished second behind Isao Okano at the Japanese Championships in 1967 . At the 1967 World Championships in Salt Lake City, he defeated his compatriot Osamu Sato in the final and won the title. 1968 Nobuyuki Satō reached third place in the Japanese championships. In 1969 he entered the open class at the 1969 World Championships in Mexico City and only lost to Willem Ruska from the Netherlands , winning a bronze medal by defeating Frenchman Jean-Luc Rougé .

1971 Nobuyuki Satō finished second behind Kaneo Iwatsuri at the Japanese championships. At the 1971 World Championships in Ludwigshafen, he defeated both Helmut Howiller from the GDR and Paul Barth from the FRG in the light heavyweight division , in the final he was defeated by his compatriot Fumio Sasahara . In 1972 he finished third at the Japanese championships. In 1973 at the 1973 World Championships in Lausanne, he defeated the British David Starbrook and the Brazilian Chiaki Ishii for the finals , he won the title by beating his compatriot Takafumi Ueguchi in the final . 1974 Satō won the Japanese championships.

In addition to the results already described at the Japanese championships in the open class, Nobuyuki Satō won the light heavyweight championship title in 1968 and the heavyweight title in 1971.
