The Asian sump iris ( Iris laevigata ) is a plant from the genus of the iris ( Iris ) within the family of the Iridaceae (Iridaceae).

The Asiatic Swamp Iris is a perennial herbaceous plant that forms rhizomes as persistence organs. It reaches heights of growth of 25 to 80 (100) centimeters. The stem is unbranched or branched once. The leaves are as long as the stem or longer and 1.5 to 4 inches wide. There is no prominent midrib. The mostly one, rarely up to 3 flowers have a diameter of 8 to 10 centimeters. They are white or blue-purple. The perigon tube is 1.5 (rarely up to 2) centimeters long. The hanging leaves are usually up to 6.5, rarely up to 10 centimeters long. The center of the nail is yellow or whitish and half the length of the ovoid-elliptical plate . The standards measure up to 6 by 1 centimeters and are upright and blue.
The flowering period extends from July to August.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 32, more rarely 28 or 34.
Occurrence
The Asian swamp iris occurs in Baikal Siberia, Yakutia , the Far East and Korea as well as central and northern Japan on wet meadows, on lake and river banks and in swamps.

The Asiatic Swamp Iris is rarely used as an ornamental plant for the edges of ponds and waters. It has been in culture since 1856 at the latest. There are numerous varieties, for example 'Variegata' with oblong, longitudinally striped leaves and 'Rose Queen' with pink flowers.
