Friedrich Ernst Ludwig von Fischer also Ferdinand (and Fedor Bogdanović Fischer (Fišer)) (born February 20, 1782 (1780) in Halberstadt , † June 17, 1854 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Prussian- Russian botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Fisch. "

Live and act

Von Fischer was director of the St. Petersburg Botanical Garden from 1823 to 1850. From 1832 he was a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences . In 1837 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

He published numerous scientific papers; many together with partners like Carl Anton von Meyer . He was also a member of the editorial team of the botanical journal Flore des serres et des jardins de l'Europe published by Louis van Houtte .

Taxa named after Fischer

The German botanist Kurt Sprengel named the plant genus Fischera from the umbelliferae family (Apiaceae) in his honor .
