Friedrich Adolph Hornemann , also Adolph / Adolf Hornemann (born May 19, 1813 in Hanover , † December 22, 1890 in Düsseldorf ), was a German painter and lithographer from the Düsseldorf School of Painting .

Life

Friedrich Adolph Hornemann was the son of the copper engraver Christian Friedrich Hornemann , who became famous for a portrait of General Carl von Alten .

Hornemann studied at the Polytechnic School in Hanover and went to Munich in 1832 . From 1834 he studied at the local art academy . He became a student of Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld and Peter Cornelius ; He assisted the latter with the painting of the Ludwigskirche .

On September 24, 1843 Hornemann married Maria Josepha Ema Sophia Maximiliana Franziska Freiin von Pechmann, a daughter of the Bavarian politician Johann von Pechmann .

In 1846 Hornemann moved to Hamburg , from where he made several study trips to France and Russia . In Saint Petersburg he was made an honorary member of the Russian Imperial Art Academy in 1861 .

Gensler donated it to the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig in 1858 . It was probably destroyed at the old location of the museum on Augustusplatz in a British air raid on December 4, 1943 because it was not part of the majority of the collection that was previously relocated. The painting is now listed at the Lost Art Coordination Office for the Loss of Cultural Property .

From 1867 Hornemann lived in Düsseldorf. Since 1870 he has been a member of the Malkasten artists' association . He was also a member of the Hamburg Artists' Association from 1832 and the General German Art Cooperative .
