Carl Anton von Meyer

Carl Anton von Meyer (born April 1, 1795 in Vitebsk ; † February 24, 1855 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian-German botanist . In Russia he is known as Karl Antonowitsch von Mejer ( Карл Анто́нович фон Ме́йер ). Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ CAMey. "

Live and act

He was director of the St. Petersburg Botanical Garden. In 1852 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

Honors

The plant genus Meyeria DC. from the sunflower family (Asteraceae) is named after Carl Anton von Meyer, Johann Carl Friedrich Meyer , Friedrich Albrecht Anton Meyer , Georg Friedrich Wilhelm Meyer and Ernst Heinrich Friedrich Meyer .
