The emerald broad-throat ( Calyptomena viridis ) is a Southeast Asian species of bird from the genus Calyptomena within the family of the broad-jawed (Eurylaimidae).
features
The 20 cm long emerald broad maw is a bird with a large head, a feather hood in the front of the face and a short tail. The broad beak is covered with feathers at the base. The plumage of the male is iridescent green and has three black wing bands and a small black spot on each of the ear covers. The females are less splendidly feathered.
Occurrence
The emerald broad wake occurs in Southeast Asia on the Malay Peninsula as well as on Sumatra and Borneo . He lives in tropical and subtropical forests.
behavior
In small groups he looks for food in the lowest branches. They are difficult to observe in the dense foliage of the trees, as they often sit still and the green plumage offers them additional cover. The diet consists mainly of fruits such as figs.
Reproduction
Both parent birds incubate one to three eggs in a pear-shaped nest made of woven plant fibers that hangs from a low branch.
