The screeching birds (Tyranni) are a subordination of the passerine birds (Passeriformes). They differ from the songbirds (Passeri, Oscines) by their lower larynx ( Syrinx ). The term suboscines is also often used in science , as the name Tyranni is also used for a subordinate taxon .

Systematics

The screeching birds can be divided into two geographically separated clades , the Eurylaimides in the tropics and subtropics of the Old World and the Tyrannides in the New World . However, a species of the Eurylaimiden, the green broad-mouthed ( Sapayoa aenigma ) lives in America. The screechers of the New World can in turn be divided into two clades, which differ in the anatomy of their vocal heads (syrinx). The relatives of the pottery birds (Furnariida) have a tracheal vocal head and are therefore also called "tracheophonic" screeching birds. The relatives of the tyrants (Tyrannida), on the other hand, have a bronchial vocal head and are therefore also called "non-trachophonic" or "bronchophonic" screeching birds.
