The ant pittas (Grallariidae) are a family of the screeching birds in the order of the passerine birds (Passeriformes). The 53 species are all found in South America.

features

Ant pittas are birds with rounded bodies, erect posture, short tails and wings, and very long legs.

Habitat and way of life

Ant pittas are neotropical , ground-dwelling passerine birds. They live in the dense undergrowth of the rainforests , in bushland and in alpine habitats with isolated bushes in the higher Andes . Because of their remote habitats, ant pittas are difficult to observe, so little is known about their biology. Their diet consists of small amphibians and perhaps fruits. The nests made of plant material are flat, the clutch consists of two eggs.
