Sewage and sewer museum
The sewage and sewage museum was a museum in Hamburg that has been closed since March 2009. The information center and museum operated by Hamburg's municipal drainage system was located at the Hafenstrasse pumping station , at the St. Pauli landing stages .
The museum provided information about the history of Hamburg's sewage disposal system and the structure of the sewer system , which was the first of its kind in continental Europe to emerge from 1842 . Historical cleaning equipment was exhibited in the museum. There was also a collection of curiosities from the objects that had been salvaged from the sewage by employees.
The museum also offered an insight into the pumping station, which pumps the collected sewage from the Stammsiel under the Elbe to the Köhlbrandhöft sewage treatment plant , and real sewage that could be observed at the confluence of two sewers in the historic vault of the boat chamber.
