Useless ID is an Israeli melodic hardcore and pop punk band from Haifa that was formed in 1994.

history

The band was formed in late 1994. The first gig was held in January 1995 in a small village near Tel Aviv-Jaffa . In the first five years she released her first albums by herself and went on tour several times, five times through North America alone . The releases took place on the band's own label, Falafel Records, named after the members' favorite food . In 1999, Kris Roe of The Ataris invited the band to do a split release on Kung Fu Records . This label then released the albums Bad Story Happy Ending (produced by Kris Roe), No Vacation from the World and Redemption in 2001, 2003 and 2005 . In 2004 the band could be heard with the song State of Fear on the sampler Rock Against Bush Vol 2 . The first DVD was released in 2006 . After the 2008 album The Lost Broken Bones , which was recorded in The Blasting Room by Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore in January and February 2008 , and a 2010 collaboration album with Muki by Shabak Samech , the group signed a contract with Fat Wreck Chords , which became 2012 the album Symptoms was released. In the same year Useless ID accompanied in Jump with Broilers and Royal Republic Die Toten Hosen their ballast of Republic tour. In their career, the band has performed in Japan , China , Belarus and Serbia and played with bands such as NOFX , The Vandals and No Use for a Name .

style

purerock.de found that the band sounds as if they “ grew up in California next to greats like NOFX and Bad Religion ” and come up with a “happy, sometimes slightly melancholy melody core ”. In the interview, Ishay Berger stated that the band is influenced by groups such as MxPx , Elvis Costello , Midtown and Bad Religion when writing the songs . Useless ID is also influenced by reggae , among other things . Bad Story Happy Ending is mostly about failed relationships, as the members in the songs mostly deal with experiences they have had recently. For Symptoms , according to fatwreck.com , Yotam Ben-Horin only heard from Hüsker Dü .

In an interview with Joachim Hiller from Ox-Fanzine , Berger stated that the members would like bands like Lagwagon , Lifetime , Econochrist , Spitboy , Sicko and Parasites, among others . In the beginning one was influenced by Antisect , Conflict , Crass , Flux and Subhumans and later by Black Flag and Minor Threat . In the same issue, Hiller reviewed the album Dead's Not Punk and described the music as Melodic Hardcore, going in the direction of J Church . The melodies are hymnal and melancholy. Randy Flame assigned the album Bad Story, Happy Ending to pop-punk, which is varied in song and melody. Two years later, Hiller discussed the album No Vacation from the World . Only the title of the phonogram can be interpreted as political. The music is Melodic Hardcore, reminiscent of Lagwagon and No Use for a Name. The album Redemption was also reviewed by Hiller and described the music as "super melodious punk rock". On almost every record there is a comment "on the muddled political situation in Israel", which is here in the form of the lyrics of State of Fear . In addition, "[m] elancholic, sugary pop-punk of the old school" is represented on the album, which is comparable to old works by Green Day and Lagwagon. Zahni Müller from the same fanzine thought that The Lost Broken Bones featuredrocky emo ”. The songs would be particularly shaped by the melodies and the singing. If the group on the previous one sounded like Blink-182 , Lagwagon and Green Day, the rock influence has increased a lot and they sound more mature. In 2015 André Hertel reviewed the re-release of the album and found that it now sounds even more harmonious and round. The band then sounds like a worthy successor to No Use for a Name. But The Ataris and Rise Against could also be used as a comparison. All in all it is “[e] xtremely melodic, powerful, anthemic and technically flawlessly played West Coast punk rock ”.
